Poland has spent over $85 million on the purchase and shipment of Starlink terminals to Ukraine since 2022, when the conflict with Russia began.
The information was shared by Polska Zbrojna, which also revealed that the costs include the subscription fees for SpaceX services, which amount to about $20 million.
Poland has been Ukraine’s main ally in ensuring that both civilians and troops had access to the internet during the country’s conflict with Russia.
Over 24,000 terminals have already been purchased and shipped, but no new purchases are planned for this year, according to Poland’s Ministry of Digitalization.
The funds for this purpose come from the Ukraine Aid Fund, which was created by the Polish government in February 2022. Other Polish entities have provided an additional 5,100 devices.
“Starlinks will help residents of front-line areas stay connected: calling relatives, requesting emergency services, and reading the news. Due to bombings and the destruction of base stations in the liberated territories, regular communication is unavailable,” said Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation.
